Stanford, Calif. ----- For the first time in a month, San Jose State University did not face an opponent ranked in the top-five in the national coaches poll on the second day of the The Mountain Pacific Invitational men's water polo tournament.
However, the #18-Spartans (4-10) lost to #12-UC Irvine, 8-7, and Santa Clara. 13-9.
Against UC Irvine, the top scorer was Cade Baldridge with three goals. The other goals were scored by Marc Weber, Justin Pickering, Seanan McManus and Neil Arnett.
Goalkeeper Yahav Fire played the entire match and was credited with nine saves.
In the nightcap against Santa Clara, the top scorer was Adam Bado who scored three goals for the Spartans. The rest of the goals were scored by Weber with two, McManus, Baldridge and Arnett, one each.
Fire again had nine saves against Santa Clara.
The San Jose State Spartans conclude playing in the Mountain Pacific Invitational Sunday, October 14 against Pomona Pitzer for 15th place.
