Saratoga, Calif.—— The Spartan men's water polo team (6-13, 0-1) led 5-0 after the first quarter of today's match against UC Irvine (7-10, 0-2) but lost 11-10 to the Anteaters.
Neil Arnett led the Spartans with 4 goals, all of which were scored in the first quarter. The other Spartan goals were scored by Utku Binkanat, Ashley Castle, Justin Pickering, Niels Hofmeijer and Adam Bado.
After the first quarter, UC Irvine scored three goals in the second to inch closer to SJSU at 6-3 at halftime. UCI then scored five goals in the third quarter to tie San Jose State 8-8 and outscored SJSU 3-2 in the final quarter.
Spartan goalkeeper Yahav Fire, was credited with 10 saves.
