Each Monday check out This Week in San José State Athletics to catch up on last week's action and see what's ahead for the Spartans!

Football (1-7, 1-3 Mountain West)

Last Week: San José State defeated UNLV 50-37 this past Saturday night at CEFCU Stadium, ending a seven-game losing streak.

This Week: The Spartans travel to Wyoming for a game with the Cowboys Saturday afternoon.

Spartan Fact #1: Dakari Monroe was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after intercepting two passes and returning on for a touchdown in the win over UNLV. His first interception led to a 50-yard field goal by Bryce Crawford, while Monroe returned his second interception 50 yards and dove at the end zone pylon for the touchdown. He also had two pass break-ups and six tackles in the win.

Spartan Fact #2: For the second time this season, Bryce Crawford is the only Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) kicker nationally-ranked in the top-25 in field goals per game (19th) and punting average (23rd). There is no other combination kicker ranked in the top-50 in both categories.

Volleyball (11-10, 6-6 Mountain West)

Last Week: San José State swept a pair of road MW matches, winning 3-1 at Utah State last Thursday and 3-0 at Boise State on Saturday.

This Week: The Spartans play two of their final three home matches of the 2018 season this week. The team hosts New Mexico Thursday night and UNLV Saturday afternoon.

Spartan Fact #1: San José State won its third consecutive road match on Saturday, dating back to a 3-2 win at Air Force on October 11, followed by last Thursday's 3-1 win at Utah State. The Spartans have won five of the team's past six matches, the only loss to MW leader Fresno State on October 20.

Spartan Fact #2: Head coach Jolene Shepardson recorded her 100th career coaching win with the 3-0 win at Boise State on October 27. She has coached eight seasons, five at SJSU and three at Bakersfield prior to coming to San Jose. Shepardson picked up her 50th win at SJSU earlier this season.

Women's Soccer (7-6-5, 6-2-3 Mountain West)

Last Week: For the third consecutive match, 110 minutes wasn't enough time to crown a winner as San José State concluded the regular season with a scoreless draw at Fresno State last Friday.

This Week: San José State hosts the 2018 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship at the Spartan Soccer Complex. The Spartans enter the tournament as the fourth seed and face fifth-seed Fresno State in a quarterfinal match Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Spartan Fact #1: Paige Simoneau was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week after shutting out Fresno State in the team's only match of the week. She recorded her 10th shutout of the season and faced only one shot on goal in the match.

Spartan Fact #2: Three Spartans were named to the first team All-MW - forward Darriell Franklin, defender Kristen Amarikawa, and goalkeeper Paige Simoneau.

Men's Soccer (7-8-2, 5-4-1 Western Athletic)

Last week: The Spartans split a pair of WAC home matches last week, defeating Incarnate Word, 3-1, Friday night before falling to UTRGV 2-1 on Sunday.

This Week: San José State hosts its final regular season match this Friday against Seattle U. The Spartans are currently tied for sixth in the WAC standings and are one of seven teams to compete at the WAC Tournament, November 7-11, hosted by Seattle U.

Spartan Fact: Three different Spartans scored in the win over Incarnate Word - Nicolas Brenes, Max Allen and Andy Rios (PK).

Women's Basketball

Last Week: The Spartans defeated Chico State 94-36 Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game at The Event Center.

Up Next: San José State opens the regular season with a home game against San Francisco State on Tuesday, November 6.

Men's and Women's Cross Country

Last Week: The Spartans traveled to San Diego for the 2018 MW Cross Country Championships at Balboa Park.

Spartan Fact (Women): The Spartans finished in fifth place at the championship. Jennifer Sandoval finished 11th to earn second team All-MW honors for the second consecutive season.

Spartan Fact (Men): San José State finished seventh at the 2018 championship, led by Craig Huff who finished eighth and earned second All-MW honors.

Men's Golf

Last Week: The San Jose State men's golf team shot a 289 in the final round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Saturday and finished sixth at 10-under 842 at the par-71 Stockton Country Club.

Spartan Fact: Kevin Velo recorded his second consecutive top-10 finish as he tied for seventh at six-under par 207. He shot a one-over par 72 in the final round and made six birdies for the round.

Women's Tennis

This Week: The Spartans are competing at the Bronco Invitational to be played at the Degheri Tennis Center on the Santa Clara University campus.

Men's Water Polo (6-13, 0-1)

Last Week: The Spartans lost 11-10 to UC Irvine this past Saturday.

This Week: San José State plays the final two home matches of the 2018 season this week - Pepperdine on Saturday and Long Beach State on Sunday.

Spartan Fact: Giacomo Locatelli scored in three of the Spartans four matches over the weekend. He led the team in scoring against Harvard with four goals.
