Fresno, Calif.----- Violani Auva'a had three and Taylor Lehr, two, top-10 finishes for San Jose State University on the first of two days at the Chic-Fil-A Invite women's swimming and diving meet.
Auva'a finished sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.01, eighth in the 200 individual medley at 2:07.05 and tenth in the 100 backstroke at 57.81 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center.
Lehr posted times of 1:53.86 in the 200 freestyle and 57.59 in the 100 backstroke for a pair of eighth place finishes.
Katie McIntee was seventh in the 200 free at 1:53.74 for the Spartans' other top-10 individual finish.
Six teams are in the meet. California leads the team scoring with 784. San Diego State is second at 658. San Jose State is sixth with 161 points.
"We had a bit of adversity thrown our way when a problem with our bus caused us to arrive late and miss the first two events," said San Jose's head coach Sage Hopkins. "I am very proud of how the team took this in stride and didn't allow their focus to waiver. We had some tremendous performances today (Friday)."
The two-day meet concludes with seven events on October 6.
