Santa Clara, Calif.----- Tamara Culibrk and Alba Pedrero Galindo each won a singles and a doubles match on the first day of the Bronco Invitational women's tennis tournament.
Culibrk was one of two Spartans to win in straight sets in singles action. She defeated Nevada's Maria Tatarnikova, 6-2, 6-4. Later in the day, Culibrk teamed with Kristina Baran to post a 6-4 doubles triumph over Nadine Del Carmen and Lindsay Pesqueria of Santa Clara.
Pedrero Galindo outlasted Selina Turulja of Nevada, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, and then teamed with Mathilda Vidgren for 6-1 win over the USF duo of Alisha Sharma and Amber Del Rosario.
Miyo Kobayashi and Laura Malsert also picked up singles victories for the Spartans on the first day of the three-day tournament.
On the day, San Jose State won 6-of-11 matches, 4-3 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.
Action at the Degheri Tennis Center on the Santa Clara University campus resumes on Saturday, November 3, at 9:00 a.m. The Spartans and host Santa Clara will play a series of singles matches. San Jose State wraps up the day with doubles action against Nevada.
There is no admission charge for the Bronco Invitational.
