Hayward, Calif. –––– San Jose State University swimmers Gabby Heng, Chloe Limargo and Gabriela Vieira each won two individual races and swam in a first-place relay finish as San Jose State University defeated Cal State East Bay, 176-86, in a non-conference dual meet.
Heng dominated both the 200 and 250 freestyle races, Limargo topped the 50 and 100 breaststroke events, and Vieira won the 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly. The trio earned a combined 54 points for the Spartans. Limargo and Vieira also swam in the 200 medley relay, along with Makenna Mathieson in the backstroke and anchor freestyer Madelyn Sailors.
Heng also helped score another relay win for San Jose State. She joined Sailors, Katie McIntee, and Antoinette Loya in the second position for the 200 freestyle relay.
Another triumvirate of Spartans added to the team's 12 first-place finishes in the 14-event meet. Loya, Jamie Dodd and Maddy Grimes won their respective events in the 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke.
With this win over Cal East Bay (6-4), the Spartans (4-3) are on a four-meet winning streak. Head coach Sage Hopkins noted that he was "very happy with how our team performed today." He continued, "we had a large number of swimmers out of today's meet, requiring us to ask a little more than usual out of much of our team, and I'm really pleased with how our swimmers responded
A full week of practice awaits until the team returns to action. Their next meet is at UC Davis, Friday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m.
