Women's Gymnastics Scores 193.300 At NorCal Classic To Start 2019

Sacramento, Calif.—The 2019 San José State women's gymnastics team started the season with a 193.300 at the NorCal Classic hosted by Sacramento State Sunday afternoon.
 
Individually, four Spartans finished in the top-five in three events. Taylor Chan tied for first on floor at 9.900 with Stanford's Kyla Bryant. Chan was second in the all-around with a 39.025. Ellie Pascoe-Long was third on vault with a 9.775, tied for fifth on beam at 9.825 and fourth in the all-around at 38.400. Stephanie Relova was fifth on bars at 9.675, while Chelsey Andrada tied for fifth on beam at 9.825.
 
The Spartans started the meet on beam with a 48.600. Pascoe-Long, competing her first collegiate beam routine, and Andrada each scored a 9.825 to lead the team. Chan had a 9.800, followed by Relova at 9.650, Josalyn Ray at 9.500 and freshman Jasmine Henley, making her Spartan debut, at 8.825.
 
Moving to floor for the second rotation, the Spartans recorded its best team score of the day with a 48.675. Chan led the team with a 9.900, followed by Andrada at 9.750, Ray at 9.725, Pascoe-Long at 9.675, Henley at 9.625 and Relova, in her first collegiate floor routine, at 9.575.
 
The vault team recorded a 48.375 in the third rotation. Pascoe-Long again led the team with a 9.775, and Chan and Ray each scored a 9.700. Freshman Carli Orcutt made her Spartan debut with a 9.650, and Madilyn Probst with her first collegiate vault scored a 9.550. Andrada rounded out the scoring with a 9.525.
 
The Spartans finished the meet on bars with a 47.650, led by Relova at 9.675 and followed closely by Orcutt at 9.650 and Chan at 9.625. Probst had a 9.400, followed by Nikki Duggan's first collegiate bar routine at 9.300 and Pascoe-Long at 9.125.
 
Chan was second in the all-around with a 39.025, her fifth 39.000 or better career all-around score. Pascoe-Long competed in the all-around for the first time as Spartan and recorded a 38.400 for fourth place.

"We were very proud of the team today," said Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers. "They competed with great effort and attitudes. We know that we need to clean up things and improve, but it was a good start to the season."
 
Stanford won the meet with a 195.175, followed by UC Davis at 194.950. Host Sacramento State rounded out the scoring with a 190.000
 
San José State competes next Sunday, January 13, at Boise State in a meet that also includes Air Force. The competition begins at 2 p.m. MT/1 p.m. PT inside Taco Bell Arena.
