San Jose, Calif. – Mikaylah Wilson had her second double double in the last three games, but a second quarter drought proved to be the difference as the San José State Spartans lost to the New Mexico Lobos 79-60 on Wednesday night in The Event Center.
Wilson finished with 14 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Megan Anderson had 11 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and an assist, and Danae Marquez finished with 10 points and four assists. Marquez has 184 assists in her Spartans career and moves past Chereese Thomas (2013-15) into 18th place on the program's career-assists list.
For the game the shooting percentages were virtually identical. San José State (2-20, 1-10 MW) was 22-of-64 (34.4 percent) and the Lobos were 26-of-74 (35.1 percent). New Mexico made seven three-pointers to the Spartans eight, but the Spartans were 8-of-13 from the line while UNM was 20-of-27. The other big factor was the Spartans 26 turnovers, which New Mexico turned into 22 points. SJSU forced 16 turnovers, but only scored seven points off the Lobos' mistakes.

Despite a decided height disadvantage on the front line, SJSU was out rebounded by just five boards, 51-to-46. The 46 rebounds are a season-high for the Spartans.
San José State led 13-11 on an Anderson layup with 2:45 to go in the first, but then saw the UNM close the period on a 10-1 run and trailed 21-14 heading into the second period.
In the second, New Mexico (20-3, 10-2 MW) took control of the game. They shot 55 percent (10-of-18) from the floor and made 6-of-8 from the line, while SJSU was 2-of-15, including 0-of-7 from distance. The Lobos led by 27 points with 1:37 to go before the half and took that advantage into the locker room, 48-21.
In the second half, the Spartans began to get back on track. In the final 20 minutes, they were 15-of-36 (41.7 percent), including draining 6-of-17 threes (35.3 percent), but went to the line just four times, making three.
New Mexico, over the same stretch, was 8-of-38 (21.1 percent) and just 2-of-13 (15.4 percent), but went 13-of-16 from the free throw line.
The Spartans were able to get the deficit down to 19 points two times in the fourth quarter but could get no closer and lost 79-60.
San Jose State travels to Las Vegas, Nev., for its next game. The Spartans play at UNLV on Saturday afternoon. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
