The Alliance for American Football (AAF), a new eight-team professional football league, makes its debut on February 9 and four San Jose State University alums are continuing their pro careers in the league.
Linebacker Frank Ginda, offensive linemen Jeremiah Kolone and Chris Gonzalez, and long snapper Ryan DiSalvo are on the 52-man roster of the first San Diego Fleet franchise.
Ginda, Kolone and Gonzalez began their pro careers in 2018 as National Football League undrafted free agents. Ginda signed with the Arizona Cardinals following the NFL draft and was a member of the Miami Dolphins during the preseason. He was released on September 1 and signed with the new league in October.
Kolone signed with the Los Angeles Rams as a 2018 undrafted free agent. He was appointed to the Rams' practice squad at the beginning of the season and placed on waivers after the team's first regular season game.
Gonzalez signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a 2018 undrafted free agent. He was placed on waivers by the Vikings at the start of preseason camp and spent most of the preseason on the San Francisco 49ers roster. He was placed on waivers after the team's last preseason game.
DiSalvo's professional career began in 2016 after four seasons as the Spartans' long snapper. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent and spent the 2016 preseason on the active roster. He signed with Tennessee Titans in August 2017 and was waived from the team's reserve/injured list in October 2017.
The league's inaugural 12-week season runs through the weekend of April 26-28, 2019. Games will be available for free on the Alliance's and fuboTV apps. The league has a national television contracts with CBS, CBS Sports Network, and the NFL Network.
