Spartans Close Out LMU Invitational Losing A Pair

Los Angeles, Calif.----- More than once in each San Jose State University women's water polo match on the final day of the LMU Invitational, the Spartans found themselves trailing by at least three goals.

When #19-ranked San Jose State trailed Bucknell, 9-4, in the fourth quarter, San Jose State (7-8) staged a major comeback tying the match, 9-9, on a Tyanna Supreme goal with just 17 seconds remaining in regulation time.

However Nina Benson's first goal of the match for Bucknell (16-8) in the third overtime gave the Bison a 10-9 win over the Spartans.

San Jose State (7-8) found itself in the same predicament in its final tournament match against #16-Wagner. The Spartans fell behind, 5-2, in the first quarter and 12-6 in the third before losing, 14-11.

Supreme, Lili Urvari, and Olga Descalzi Portell each scored four times on the day. Urvari was the Spartans' leading scorer against Bucknell with three goals. Descalzi Portell scored all four of her goals against Wagner.

Hannah Henry had another busy day as San Jose State's goalkeeper. She was credited with eight saves against Bucknell and 14 vs. Wagner.

The Spartans return to action, Thursday, March 21, hosting Harvard in a non-conference match at West Valley College. Match time is 6:00 p.m.
