Spartans On The Scoreboard; School Record In The Pole Vault

Clovis, Calif.----- Jeanette Zambrano in the steeplechase and Silvia Gutierrez in the hammer throw turned in scoring performances and Eseta Finau set a school record in  the pole vault on the second day of the three-day Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
 
            Zambrano placed sixth in her specialty with a time of 10:15.72. The winner, Charlotte Prousse of New Mexico, set a conference meet record of 9:47.43.
 
            "Her time was pretty good. Our conference is just so tough in the steeple," said San Jose State distance coach Brad Wick about the team's top steeplechaser.
 
            Gutierrez, the first women's hammer thrower in Spartan history, finished eighth in her event with a 51.21 meters throw on her first attempt.
 
            Finau, a freshman and the first San Jose State women's pole vaulter, tied for 10th place with her season best and new school record of 3.64 meters.
 
            Diamond Tabron capped off the Spartans' highlights for the evening qualifying for the final in the 400 hurdles. She was the #9-qualifier with her time of 1:04.12.
 
            The Mountain West Championships conclude on May 11. Besides Tabron in the 400 hurdles, San Jose State has entries in the 1500 and 5000, and the 4x400 meter relay.
