Woodland, Calif.----- Eight San Jose State University women's water polo players were named to the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic team.
For the third consecutive year, Michelle Taikeff, the Spartans' only senior, earned the conference academic award. The criteria for being named Academic All-MPSF in a sport consists of being enrolled at a conference member institution for at least one year; having sophomore, junior or senior academic standing; and participating in at least 50 percent of the team's contests in a season.
Other award winners are junior Sierra Painter; sophomores Riley Agerbeek, Natalie Hosmer, Isabella Schmidt, Tyanna Supreme, and Lily Urvari; and redshirt freshman Hannah Henry. A 2017 Academic All-MPSF award recipient, Painter earned her second conference academic award.
"I'm very proud of these Spartans. This is another example of their hard work in and out of the pool. Our goals include success athletically and success academically," said San Jose State women's water polo head coach Gabor Sarusi.
A total of 43 student-athletes from the seven women's water polo playing conference members were recognized. San Jose State's eight award winners matched the University of California for the second most honorees. Stanford led all conference schools with 10.
"Our conference (MPSF) has very high academic standards. To be tied for #2 in the conference shows we are accomplishing the right things," added the Spartans' head coach.
