Fayetteville, Ark.—Freshman Natasha Andrea Oon showed why she is one of the best freshman in the country as she finished strong at the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship on Monday. Oon finished ninth after shooting a one-under 72 in the final round for a three-over 222.
San José State finished 19th at the championship after shooting a 312 in the final round for a three-round total of 938. Six teams were still on the course Monday night when the round was called due to darkness. The round was delayed for almost two hours due to storms in the area. The top eight teams in the standings will advance to match play on Tuesday.
Oon was even through the first nine holes of the round, making seven pars, a birdie on the par-three, 154-yard third hole, and a bogey. She made the turn by making a birdie on the par-five, 525-yard 10th hole and followed that with eight pars to end her round.
Oon is the second-highest finishing freshman in the field as Hailee Cooper of Texas finished fourth at one-under 218. Oon is the first Spartan to finish in the top-10 in the individual standings since Janice Moodie was second at the 1997 National Championship in Columbus, Ohio.
