Women's Water Polo All-America Honors For Spartans' Descalzi Portell

Bridgeport, Pa.----- San Jose State University's Olga Descalzi Portell, the top freshman goal scorer in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, (MPSF) was named a 2019 honorable mention All-America women's water polo player in a vote by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.

Descalzi Portell scored 57 goals in 25 matches, ranked sixth in the MPSF and led the Spartans in goal scoring. No other freshman in the conference scored more than 45 goals on the season.

The honor is the latest for the first-year player from Terrassa, Spain. She was named a second-team All-MPSF choice and to the conference's All-Newcomer team.

"Olga is a tremendous athlete and an outstanding player at both ends of the pool. She is very deserving of this All-America honor. We are proud to have her as a Spartan," said San Jose State women's water polo head coach Gabor Sarusi.
