Oon Wins Malaysian Amateur, She & Arevalo Earn All-America Honors

San Jose, Calif.—San José State women's golfer Natasha Andrea Oon has not stopped adding to her trophy case this summer as she won the 117th Malaysian Amateur Open women's championship last weekend.

She is the first winner of the women's title in eight years as the women's championship was last contested in 2011. The tournament began in 1894 and is one of the oldest amateur events in the world.

Oon recorded her best career round with an eight-under 64 in the third round and finished the tournament at 12-under 276. She won the tournament by six shots over Alyaa Abdul Ghanny.

"I am ecstatic to win the 117th Malaysian Amateur Open. It's great to win our national amateur open," Oon told the media at the tournament.

Along with her tournament trophy, Oon and teammate Abegail Arevalo have added another honor to their growing lists as they were honored on the Golfweek All-America lists. Oon was named a third team selection, while Arevalo received honorable mention recognition.
