Fales Leads 15 Spartan Alums In NFL Preseason Week #2

Former San Jose State star David Fales passed for more yards than any other quarterback in the second week of National Football League preseason action.

Coming in the third quarter for the Detroit Lions, Fales completed 12-of-19 passes without an interception for 226 yards and one touchdown in the Lions' 30-23 loss to the Houston Texans. He is battling Tom Savage and Josh Johnson for a back-up quarterback role on the team.

Only two other quarterbacks, rookie Gardner Minshew, who played for Washington State against San Jose State in 2018, and Robert Griffin, III, passed for more than 200 yards in a preseason Week #2 game. Now with Jacksonville, Minshew passed for 202 yards. Griffin, III, threw for 201 yards for Tampa Bay.

Isaiah Irving made his second start as an outside linebacker for the Chicago Bears. In his third season with the Bears, Irving was credited with three tackles and a third-quarter quarterback sack in Chicago's 32-13 loss to the New York Giants.
