Spartans 3rd After First Round of Minnesota Invitational

Woodbury, Minn.—The Spartan women's golf team showed flashes of excellence, but the flashes of lightning stopped play three times on Monday as the San José State women's golf team finished the day tied for third place at the Minnesota Invitational at the Prestwick Golf Club.

San José State was tied for third after the first round with Virginia Tech at three-over 291. Natasha Andrea Oon shot a three-under 69 and was tied for third place. She was three-under par for the final nine holes and made four birdies for the round.

Freshman Kajsa Arwefjäll made her debut by shooting an even-par 72 to tie for 13th place.  Antonia Malate shot a two-over 74 and tied for 29th, while Maddie White was tied for 43rd at four-over 76. Ysabel Tran tied for 52nd at five-over 77.

Mother Nature intervened throughout the day with three lightning delays, the final causing the second round to end on Monday. The second round will be continued on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT. The tournament will be just 36 holes as too many variables made it almost impossible to ensure that the third round could be completed.
