NEW ORLEANS (September 23, 2019) – San Jose State University football senior Josh Love is one of eight quarterbacks named a "Manning Award Star of the Week" for his performance in the Spartans' 31-24 non-conference victory over Arkansas of the SEC.
Love completed 32-of-49 passes with an interception for 402 yards and two first-half touchdowns. He also led the Spartans on a fourth-quarter, game-winning drive on the road as San Jose State won a non-conference road game for the first time since the 2012 season.
The Manning Award is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl and names eight quarterbacks each week as its "Stars of the Week." College football fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
This week's eight Manning Award Stars of the Week are:
Joe Burrow, LSU (25-of-34, 398 yards, 6 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 95.5)
Burrow sets the school-record for touchdown passes and the record for first-half yards (357) as he leads LSU to its most regulation-time points in SEC action with a 66-38 road win over Vanderbilt.
Matt Fink, USC (21-of-30, 351 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 91.8)
Fink, who has only attempted 18 career passes, comes off the bench after an early injury and leads the Trojans to a 30-23 upset of No. 10 Utah in Pac-12 action.
Chase Garbers, California (23-of-35, 357 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 85.7)
Garbers tallies career-highs in passing yards and touchdowns as the Golden Bears improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2015 with a 28-20 road win over Ole Miss.
Anthony Gordon, Washington State (41-of-61, 570 yards, 9 TDs, 2 INT, QBR: 74.8)
Gordon sets a career-best in passing yards and breaks the school-record for touchdown passes but it's not enough for the Cougars who lose a wild 67-63 decision to UCLA in Pac-12 action.

Martinez registers his third career 100-yard rushing game with 118 yards as he helps the Cornhuskers' erase a 14-point second-half deficit in a 42-38 Big Ten road win over Illinois.
Steven Montez, Colorado (22-of-30, 337 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INT, QBR: 95.9)
Montez tallies his school-record 12th career 300-yard game and helps the Buffaloes to a 34-31 Pac-12 road upset of No. 24 Arizona State.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson, UCLA (25-of-38, 507 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT, QBR: 69.6)
Thompson-Robinson, who also rushes for two touchdowns, has career-highs in yards and TDs and connects on the game-winning TD pass with 1:07 to go to cap a miraculous comeback from a 32-point second-half deficit in a wild 67-63 Pac-12 road win over No. 19 Washington State.
While the Manning Award selected 30 quarterbacks for its preseason Watch List, additional quarterbacks are expected to be added to the Watch List later in the season. The 10 finalists for the honor will be announced on Thursday, November 28 and the winner is scheduled to be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
In its first 15 years, the Manning Award has recognized the top names in college football. It has honored quarterbacks from 12 different schools and from four different conferences. The Big 12 Conference (Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Vince Young, Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III) leads the way with five Manning Award honorees, while the Southeastern Conference (Johnny Manziel, Cam Newton, JaMarcus Russell and Tim Tebow) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Deshaun Watson twice, Matt Ryan and Jameis Winston) have four Manning Award winners each. Oklahoma (Murray and Mayfield) joins Texas (McCoy and Young) as the only schools with two different winners.
All the Manning Award winners follow in the footsteps of the Mannings themselves. In college, Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning combined for over 25,000 passing yards and 201 touchdowns while playing in 10 bowl games and earning four bowl MVP awards. Archie was the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, while both Peyton and Eli were selected No. 1 overall.
In addition to the Manning Award's yearly honor, each week during the regular season, eight quarterbacks are recognized as Manning Quarterbacks of the Week. Sixty players from 59 different schools were honored during the 2018 season.
