BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – San José State freshman swimmer Rebecca Petoe was the overall performer at day one of the CSUB Sprint Classic hosted by Cal State Bakersfield. Petoe swam in three individual races and one medley and finished with a day one score of 44 to lead the field.
Petoe started the day with a runner-up finish in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 30.45, followed that with a seventh-place finish in the 50 yard butterfly (26.57) and finished with a third-place finish in the 100 yard individual medley (1:00.65). She also swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay to help the Spartans finish sixth.
Overall, the Spartans finished the day in fourth of five teams with a score of 190. UC-Santa Barbara is the leader with a score of 588 followed by CSU-Bakersfield (276), Cal Baptist (203), SJSU and Dixie (133).
SJSU picked up 10 top-10 finishes on the day led by Petoe's trio. Kate Hanf finished fourth in the 100 IM with a time of 1:00.70 while Katie McIntee tied for fourth at 26.53 in the 50 yard fly. McIntee was also the Spartans' top finisher in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24:59.
