Chan Wins MPSF All-Around Title, Spartans Season-Best 195.450 At MPSF Championships

Seattle, Wash.— On a night of season and career highs, the San José State women's gymnastics team posted its 11th-best team score in school history, and Taylor Chan won the all-around title at the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships hosted by Seattle Pacific.
 
For the second consecutive season, a Spartan won the MPSF All-Around title as Chan scored a career-best 39.300 Saturday night.  She becomes the fourth Spartan to win the all-around title – Kaitlin Won in 2018, Cami Guyer in 2015 and Shirla Choy in 2003. Chan finished tied for second on floor with a 9.900, third on beam at 9.850, tied for sixth on vault at 9.775 and tied for 15th on bars at 9.775.
 
Other Spartans finished in the top-eight include Chelsey Andrada who tied for third on vault at 9.800 and was fourth on the floor at 9.875, Stephanie Relova, Kaprece Nadonza and Nikki Duggan who tied for seventh on bars at 9.825, Tia Gin who tied for fourth on beam at 9.825, and Josalyn Ray and Jasmine Henley who tied for eighth on floor at 9.800.
 
San José State scored a season-high 195.450 Saturday night. That team score ranks 11th all-time in school history and is the first time a Spartan team has achieved that score. It is also the third consecutive season that the Spartans have saved their best team score for the final meet of the year.
 
The Spartans started the night on beam, tying for the ninth-best beam team score in school history with a 48.950. Chan led the team with a season-high 9.850, followed by Gin with a season-best 9.825, Andrada at 9.800, Ray at 9.750, Relova at 9.725 and Henley at 9.700.
 
After a bye, the Spartans had another season-best with a 49.050 on floor, led again by Chan's 9.900. Andrada recorded a career-best 9.875, while Ray and Henley had a 9.800. Antonia Marquez rounded out the Spartan floor team as she tied her season-best with a 9.675.
 
The vault team came through with a 48.600, led by Andrada's 9.800. Chan followed closely at 9.775, then Ray at 9.750, Marquez at 9.650, Madilyn Probst at 9.625 and Trisha Raquel at 9.375.
 
After the team's final bye of the meet, the bars team came out with a season-best 48.850, the 11th-best bars score in school history. Nikki Duggan, Kaprece Nadonza and Relova all scored a 9.825, followed by Chan at 9.775, Probst at 9.600 and Gin at 9.100.
 
Air Force won the team championship with a 195.725. UC Davis was third at 195.200, Alaska Anchorage fourth at 194.220, Sacramento State fifth at 192.425 and Seattle Pacific sixth at 192.400.
