Anchorage, Alaska—Taylor Chan and Emma Milne won event titles as the San José State women's gymnastics team scored a season-best 194.375 in a meet at Alaska Anchorage Saturday afternoon. The host Seawolves had a 192.525.
Chan won the vault with a 9.750, floor with a 9.900 and all-around at 38.875. Milne tied for first on beam with UAA's Sophia Hyderally at 9.850, to win her first collegiate event title.
In all, 10 Spartans competed in the meet Saturday afternoon in Anchorage. The Spartans started the meet strong on bars with a season-best 48.725. Milne recorded a season-best 9.875 to lead the team for the second consecutive meet. Jada Mazury had a 9.750, followed by Chan's 9.725, Nikki Duggan at 9.700, Carli Orcutt at 9.675 and Tia Gin at 8.850.
The team then rotated to vault and scored a 48.175. Chan led the team at 9.750, followed by Cameron Kelperis at 9.725, Gin at 9.625, Chelsey Andrada at 9.575, Antonia Marquez at 9.500 and Milne at 9.000.
The third rotation was the best for San José State as the team scored a season-best 48.975 on floor. Chan got her familiar 9.900 to lead the team, followed by Mazury at 9.825, Gin at 9.800, Kelperis and Marquez at 9.725 and Andrada at 9.650.
The beam team then finished the meet with a 48.500. Milne scored a season-best 9.850, followed by Andrada and Mazury at 9.725, Gin at 9.700, Chang at 9.500 and Simone Adams at 8.175.
Chan won the all-around with her 38.875, while Gin competed in the all-around for the first time in her collegiate career and had a 37.975.
The Spartans host the first of four meets this season on Sunday, January 26, when Seattle Pacific and Boise State come to the Provident Credit Union Event Center. The meet begins at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 12:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or by calling (408) 924-SJTX.
