San Jose, Calif.—The San José State women's gymnastics team continued to improve, three meets into the season, as the Spartan scored a season-best 194.675 at the team's home opener against Boise State and Seattle Pacific on Alumni and Donor Day inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
Three Spartans won event titles Sunday afternoon. Taylor Chan won the floor title for the second consecutive week with a 9.875 and the all-around with a season-best 39.100. Tia Gin and Chelsey Andrada tied for first on beam at 9.825.
Gin and Andrada also helped the beam team score a 48.950, tying for the eighth-best beam score in school history. Other who competed on beam included Emma Milne with a 9.800, Jada Mazury at 9.750, Simone Adams at 9.750 and Chan at 9.650.
The Spartans started the day on vault and a 48.300. Chan and Cameron Kelperis each scored a 9.775 to lead the team. Gin followed with a 9.700, then Andrada at 9.575, Milne at 9.475 and Antonia Marquez at 8.450.
Moving to bars, Chan and Milne led the team as each scored a 9.800. Carli Orcutt followed with a 9.750, Gin at 9.675, Duggan at 9.650 and Jada Mazury at 8.900. The Spartans scored a 48.675 on bars and had a 96.975 after two rotations.
The beam team rocked in the third rotation with the 48.950 and the team had a 145.925 score after three rotations.
On floor for the final rotation, the team scored a 48.750, led by Chan's 9.875. Andrada scored a 9.800, while Mazury had a 9.725, Marquez a 9.700, Kelperis a 9.650 and Gin a 9.350.
San José State kept the line chart moving upward as the Spartans improved their season-best team score by .300, finishing at 194.675. Boise State won the meet with a 194.525, and Seattle Pacific was third at 191.575.
The Spartans return home Friday night with a dual meet against UC Davis inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for warm-ups, and the Spartans take the floor at 7 p.m.
