Spartans Have Greene Day Out Of The Blocks In Albuquerque

Albuquerque, N.M. - Solid showings in the 400 meter dash from individuals on both the San José State men's and women's track and field teams highlighted the program's day at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Thursday.

It was sprinter Daryia Greene who turned in the best performance of the day, placing fifth in the women's 400 with a mark of 56.31. Greene's time was the second-best mark in women's program history for the women's indoor 400.

Upperclassmen Charles Price and Aidan Jardon also impressed on Thursday, placing 13th and 15th against a stacked field in the men's 400. Price's time of 49.11 seconds is the second-best mark in program history for the indoor 400 on the men's side.

In the throws, sophomore Nysiah Legardye set an indoor school record in the weight throw with a mark of 16.13 meters. The mark topped her previous best by 0.66 meters.

The two-day meet concludes on Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Some Spartans will also be in action on Friday and Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle.

The meets serve as the program's final tuneups before the conference's indoor championships, to be held in Albuquerque from Feb. 27-29.
