Spartans Show Their Bests Friday Night

San Jose, Calif.—New career-bests and a season-high team score highlighted the San José State women's gymnastics meet Friday night as the Spartans scored a 195.025 in a meet with Alaska Anchorage at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
 
Taylor Chan bookended the night with victories, starting with a season-high 9.850 to win the vault and ending with a career-best 9.950 on floor for the win. She becomes just the fourth Spartan in school history to receive a 9.950 on floor, following in the footsteps of Dani Albright, Shirla Choy and Thomasina Wallace. Chan also won the all-around with a 38.775.


 
Freshman Jada Mazury won her second consecutive bars title as she scored a 9.900, tying for the third-highest bars score in SJSU history and the first 9.900 on bars since 2017.


 
Nikki Duggan, competing on beam for the first time in her collegiate career, stuck her routine as she won her first event title with a 9.800.
 


 
The Spartans started the night with a 48.650 on vault, led by Chan's 9.850, followed by Cameron Kelperis at 9.750, Chelsey Andrada and Tia Gina at 9.725 and Emma Milne at 9.600.
 
The bars team scored a season-best 48.800, with Mazury's 9.900, Milne at 9.825, Chan at 9.725, Duggan at 9.700 and Orcutt at 9.650.
 
Another solid performance by the beam team found them at 48.725. Duggan anchored the team with her 9.800, followed by Milne at 9.775, Mazury at 9.750, Andrada at 9.725 and Gin at 9.675.
 
Chan's 9.950 capped off the Spartan floor team's 48.850. Kelperis added a 9.750, followed by Antonia Marquez and Andrada at 9.725, Gin at 9.700 and Mazury at 9.500.
 
The team's 195.025 ties for the 25th-best team score in school history.
 
San José State now goes on the road to compete at Seattle Pacific next Friday February 21, at 7 p.m.
