Lake Elsinore, Calif.—The Spartan softball extended their winning streak to seven games as the team hit three home runs in a 10-1 win over Portland State in five innings Sunday in the final game of the Golden State Classic.
Suzy Brookshire hit her third and fourth home runs of the weekend in the win. She started the Spartans scoring in the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning with a shot to center field to score Cassidy Clark as well.
Brookshire came to the plate in the bottom of the second, and it was almost a perfect déjà vu. Clark was on second after her double scored the second Spartan run of the inning. Brookshire came up and hit her second home run to center field to score two runs and give SJSU a 6-0 lead.
Ashley Machado got the scoring started for the Spartans in the four-run third inning. After Jacey Phipps singled to center, Machado hit her first home run of the season to right field to plate the first two SJSU runs.
In all, San José State (7-2) scored 10 runs on 10 hits and six walks. Brookshire, Jocylyn Vidal and Machado each had two hits in the game.
Shannon Haddad pitched a complete game in the circle to improve her record to 4-1 on the season. She faced 18 batters, allowing three hits and one earned run and striking out six.
