MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Two top-eight finishers and a fourth-place relay finish highlighted the Spartans third day at the Mountain West Championships. Violani Auva'a and Chloe Limargo each finished eighth in the A Finals in the 100 fly and 100 breast, respectively.
Auva'a started her morning topping her previous No. 5 spot on the all-time top-10 list in the 100 fly with a time of 54.41. She then swam a 54.78 to place eighth in the A Final. Limargo finished eighth in her A Final as well, swimming the 100 breast in 1:02.39.
The Spartan 200 freestyle relay team of Antoinette Loya, Gabby Heng, Madelyn Sailors and Rebecca Petoe finished in the fourth with the school's No. 8 all-time fastest time of 1:32.32.
Kate Hanf swam the No. 7 all-time best time in the 400 IM (4:27.76) to finish in 22nd and qualify for the National Invitational Championships. Loya and Gabriela Vieira also qualified for the NICs in the 100 fly with times of 55.02 and 55.81, respectively. Loya's time ranks No. 8 on the school's all-time top-10.
Heng finished tenth in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.31 while Katie McIntee came in 23rd (1:52.88). Cali Rowland finished 19th in the 100 breast. Her preliminary time of 1:03.78 ranks No. 8 on the all-time top-10.
"We had a solid morning session with several standout performances capped off with Lani and Chloe's top-eight swims as well as Lani and Gabi's impressive doubles with the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke," said head coach Sage Hopkins.
