Spartans Sweep Event Titles, Milne Ties Own Record

Sacramento, Calif.—In a very close meet at Sacramento State, the Spartans won all four event titles and Emma Milne tied her school record as the San José State women's gymnastics team escaped with a 194.275-194.225 win over the Hornets Friday night.

One week after becoming the first Spartan to ever record a 9.925 on beam, Milne repeated her feat with another 9.925 on beam Friday night to win the beam title. She also helped the Spartan beam team record a 49.250, the second-highest beam score in school history and the first time the Spartans have recorded that exact score.

Milne started the meet with another accomplishment in her young Spartan career. She is now the seventh Spartan in school history to record a 9.900 on bars, joining fellow freshman Jada Mazury who accomplished the feat earlier this season.

Taylor Chan won the other two event titles, taking the vault with a 9.800 and the floor with a 9.850. She won her sixth vault title and 23rd floor title in her Spartan career.

The Spartans had a rough start to the meet as the bars team scored a 47.500. Milne anchored the team with a 9.900. Shyan Phillips made her return to the lineup and scored a season-high 9.725.  Carli Orcutt had a 9.700, and Chan added a 9.600. But the team had to count a fall in Nikki Duggan's 8.575.

The team then rotated to vault and scored a 48.675, led by Chan's 9.800. Chelsey Andrada scored a 9.775, followed by Tia Gin at 9.750, Cameron Kelperis at 9.700, Milne at 9.650 and Antonia Marquez at 9.600.

The floor team had a solid 48.850, led again by Chan at 9.850. Kelperis, Henley and Gin each scored a 9.775 to start the rotation. Mazury had a 9.675, while Marquez added a 9.500.

In the final rotational, the beam team had the best score of the night with the 49.250, the second-best beam score in school history. Milne led the team with a 9.925, and Andrada tied her career-best with a 9.900. Mazury had a 9.850, followed by Chan at 9.825, Gin at 9.750 and Duggan at 9.550.

Chan recorded her fourth 39.000+ all-around score this season with her 39.075.

The Spartans next compete on Sunday, March 8, at Denver in a meet with the Pioneers, Washington and Alaska Anchorage at 2 p.m. MT/1 p.m. PT.
