Softball Finishes San Diego Classic With 5-0 Win Over Brown

San Diego, Calif.—Four Spartans had two hits as the San Jose State softball team defeated Brown, 5-0, Sunday morning at the San Diego Classic.

Rayohna Sagapolu, Makayla Englestad, Suzy Brookshire and Alyssa Graham recorded eight of the 10 Spartan hits on the day. Graham drove in two of the five runs for the Spartans.
 
The Spartans jumped out to an early 3-0 in the first inning. Englestad scored on a Brookshire double to left center for the first run of the game. Brookshire and Jocylyn Vidal score the other two runs on a Graham double to right center.
 
SJSU added runs in the third and fifth innings. In the third, Brookshire scored on a Vicky Gutierrez bases-loaded walk. Taylor Tiger, pinch running for Grace Garvey in the fifth inning, scored on a fielding error by the Brown infield for the final run of the game.
 
Jenessa Ullegue pitched 3.2 innings of relief of Caroline Bowman. Ullegue started the game in right field and then pitched in relief as she improved her record to 2-1 on the season. She allowed three hits but struck out four of the 12 batters faced. Bowman pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing four hits and walk and striking out three.
 
San Jose State is now 19-3 on the season and play a single game this Tuesday at Pacific beginning at 2 p.m. The team then hosts the Silicon Valley Classic II next Thursday-Sunday at the Spartan Softball Field.
