San Diego, Calif.—While one streak ended and another started, the San José State softball team made sure everyone knew the offense did not go away Saturday at the San Diego Classic. The Spartans fell in the first game, 3-2, to St. John's but regained their composure to defeat Weber State 13-0 in five innings.
The loss to St. John's ended the program's record-breaking 17-game winning streak. The longest streak prior was 12 games set last season.

The Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning as Suzy Brookshire hit her seventh home run of the season. Cassidy Clark started the inning with an infield single, followed by Brookshire who sent the second pitch she saw over the centerfield fence.
St. John's responded in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to center field to tie the game. SJU then scored in the bottom of the sixth for the 3-2 lead.
San José State had one more chance in the seventh as Alyssa Graham doubled to left center to start the inning. She advanced to third on a Jenessa Ullegue sacrifice bunt, but was left stranded as Jocylyn Vidal struck out and Vicky Gutierrez grounded out to end the threat.
Ullegue pitched the first 3.2 innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs as she faced 16 batters. Freshman Shannon Haddad pitched the final 2.1 innings of the game, allowing two hits and one unearned run as her record fell to 11-2 on the season.
