Malate Has Career Rounds To Help Spartans To Sixth Place

Fairfax, Calif.—Antonia Malate shot two of the best rounds of her women's golf collegiate career and is tied for second after two rounds of the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational. San José State is sixth at 16-over, 592, 10 shots behind leader Washington State.
 
Malate started the day by tying her low round with a one-under 71 in the first round. She shot a one-over 37 on the first nine holes, making eight pars and a bogey. She played the final nine holes at two-under, with birdies on #11 and #13, and seven pars.
 
Malate followed up her first round with a career-low 70 in the second round. Her card was a little more colorful as she made seven birdies, three bogeys, a double bogey and seven pars. She was two-under through the first nine holes, making four birdies, before shooting and even-par 36 over the final nine holes. Malate got to five-under par through 15 holes before shooting double bogey-par-bogey to finish her round.
 
Natasha Andrea Oon is 11th at two-over 146. She shot a one-over 73 in each round, making two birdies in each round. She is one of three players to make 27 pars over the two rounds.
 
Kajsa Arwefjäll shot 75-75-150 and is tied for 23rd. She made three birdies in her first round and followed that with two birdies in the second.
 
Maddie White shot a 155 and is tied for 54th. After not carding one birdie in the first round, she made back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine during the second round.
 
Ysabel Tran rounded out the Spartan scoring at 156 and is tied for 56th. Tran did not make a birdie during the first round but did make six consecutive pars. She made a birdie in the second round and ended the day by making six consecutive pars.
 
Final round action begins Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
