Knight Earns Third Team All-Mountain West Honors

LAS VEGAS - San José State men's basketball sophomore Seneca Knight was named a third-team all-Mountain West selection in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Knight, who was also a third-team all-league selection in the media vote, is the first Spartan to earn all-Mountain West accolades since Brandon Clarke was a first-team pick in 2016-17.

"Seneca has been working hard ever since he arrived at San José State and it's paying off," head coach Jean Prioleau said. "He's going to keep getting better and better during his career. I'd like to congratulate Seneca on his all-conference selection."

Knight has been the Spartans' go-to scorer this season, especially since Mountain West games began. In league play this season, the lanky guard is third in the Mountain West, averaging 20.1 points per game. His scoring output was behind only Nevada's Jalen Harris (25.3 ppg) and UNLV's Bryce Hamilton (20.9 ppg) in the conference, both first team all-league selections.

Knight tallied three 30+ point games against MW opponents - at UNLV, at Nevada and at Colorado State - and scored in double figures in all but one conference game this season. His three 30+ point games is already tied for the fourth most in SJSU career history. Overall this year, Knight led the Spartans in both scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg). He posted a team-high two double-doubles.

Knight recorded a career-high 37 points at Colorado State on Feb. 22, tied for the fourth most points in single-game program history. Adrian Oliver holds the school record with 42 points in 2010. Knight was 9-of-19 shooting against the Rams but went 14-of-15 at the free throw line. He scored 26 points in the first half alone.

Knight and the No. 10 seed Spartans open up the 2020 Mountain West Tournament tomorrow at 2:30 PM against New Mexico. Knight, with 508 total points scored, needs just 12 more to jump Ricky Berry (519 points in 1986) for 10th all-time in single-season program history.
