Spartans Open Mountain West Tournament on Wednesday

LAS VEGAS - The No. 10 seed San Jose State men's basketball team opens the 2020 Mountain West Tournament against No. 7 seed New Mexico at 2:30 PM PT on Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Notes: Sophomore Seneca Knight, a third-team all-Mountain West selection, has been the star of the show this season for the Spartans. In league play this season, the lanky guard is third in the Mountain West, averaging 20.1 points per game. His output is behind only Jalen Harris (25.3 ppg) and Bryce Hamilton (20.9 ppg). Knight tallied three 30+ point games against MW opponents this season - at UNLV, at Nevada and at Colorado State. Knight averaged 6.2 points in 20.1 minutes per game last season as a freshman. Knight's career-high 37-point outburst against Colorado State tied for fourth all-time in SJSU single-game history.

THIS SEASON VS. NEW MEXICO
- Split the season series, each team won at home.
- Richard Washington (14.0 ppg), Brae Ivey (11.0 ppg) and Seneca Knight (10.5 ppg) all averaged double figures in scoring against the Lobos. 
- Neither team shot well from deep in the season series. The Spartans were 17-of-58 (29.3 percent) in the two games while the Lobos were 11-of-40 (27.5 percent). 
- The Spartans struggled on the glass much of the season, but not against New Mexico. In the two games, SJSU grabbed 72 rebounds, 28 on the offensive glass, while UNM snagged 77 rebounds with just 16 on the offensive end. 

THIS SEASON VS. UTAH STATE
- The Spartans were swept by Utah State, 0-2, this year.
- SJSU averaged just 57.5 points in the two meetings.
- Seneca Knight scored a team-best 15.0 points, shooting 40.9 percent overall and 42.9 percent from three against the Aggies. As a team, however, the Spartans shot just 34.5 percent from the floor versus Utah State.
