Bars Team Shines On Sunday

Denver, Colo.—The Spartan bars team saved the best for last on Sunday, scoring the program's fourth best score on the event as San José State finished with a 193.775 at a quad meet hosted by Denver.
 
In the final rotation, the bars team scored a 49.150, tying for the fourth-best bars score in school history. Emma Milne continued to chisel her name in the record books as she led the bars team with a 9.925, tying for the second-best bars score in school history. She is just the fourth Spartan to achieve that score on bars, following Shirla Choy, Kelsey Spellacy and Thomasina Wallace. Milne finished third on the event.
 
Jada Mazury had the second-best score on bars with a 9.875, followed by Carli Orcutt with a career-high 9.825, Shyan Phillips with a season-best 9.800, Taylor Chan at 9.725 and Tia Gin at 9.675.
 
The Spartans had a rough start to the meet, scoring a 47.525 on beam and having two falls in that score. Milne again anchored the team with a 9.850, followed by Gin at 9.725, Chan at 9.700. Chelsey Andrada and Mazury each had a 9.125.
 
Chan then led the floor team with her fifth 9.900 on the season and 19th of her career. Jasmine Henley and Antonia Marquez each rewrote her career best with a 9.825. Cameron Kelperis tied her career high with a 9.775. Mazury had a 9.075, and Gin had a 9.000.
 
The vault team scored a 48.700 in the third rotation, led by Chan's 9.850. Gin had a new career best of 9.800. Kelperis scored a 9.750, followed by Andrada and Milne at 9.650 and Marquez at 9.550.
 
Chan finished fourth in the all-around with a 39.175.
 
The Spartans finish the home schedule next Sunday, March 15, with a dual meet against Sacramento State. The contest begins at 2 p.m. inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Spartan seniors Chelsey Andrada and Taylor Chan will be honored after the meet.
 
Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and tickets are available at the door or by calling the Spartan Ticket Office at (408) 924-SJTX. Adults are $8, and all children 12 and under free for the meet.
