Six Gymnasts Honored By MPSF For Academic Excellence

Woodland, Calif.—Six San José State women's gymnasts have been honored by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for their achievements in the classroom by being named Academic All-MPSF Scholar Athletes.

Chelsey Andrada and Taylor Chan earned the third honor of their careers. Nikki Duggan was honored for the second year, while Tia Gin, Antonia Marquez and Carli Orcutt each received their first recognition.

"We are SO proud of these ladies!  This is almost everyone that is eligible for this honor, and that just shows you how the standard has been elevated on our team.  These young women have instilled a culture in our team that their academics are very important to their overall success as people.  We are encouraging them to grow as people as well as gymnasts, and this is a wonderful achievement for our program.  The hard work they are willing to put into their academics is greatly appreciated," said Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers.

To receive the distinction, gymnasts must have a 3.00 or better grade point average, be a sophomore academically, complete at least one full academic year at the institution prior to this season and compete in 50 percent or more of the institution's competitions.
