SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose State women's tennis team, along with six individuals, were honored in the 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association academic awards, the organization announced.
The Spartans earned ITA All-Academic Team recognition for the ninth straight season with a 3.708 combined GPA for the 2019-20 academic year.
Individually, Tamara Culibrk (3.980 GPA), Lara Marco Mas (3.865), Klara Milojkovic (3.730), Alba Pedrero Galindo (3.623), Savannah Sendar (3.970) and Rozalina Youseva (3.526) all took home ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Sendar earned the honor for the third straight season while Pedrero Galindo picked up the recognition for the second straight year. The Spartans have earned 35 ITA Scholar-Athlete honors over the last eight years.
"I'm incredibly proud of the team for coming together during a difficult season and staying focused on their classes," said head coach Chad Skorupka. "Our consistency academically, year-in and year-out, has been impressive. We can't wait to one day get back on the court together, but our team understands that earning a degree from SJSU is the reason we're all here."
In the spring semester, the women's tennis program led all teams at SJSU with a 3.810 combined GPA.
Overall in NCAA Div. I, 1,430 student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and 244 programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:
- have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
- all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
- all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:
- have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
- be listed on the institutional eligibility form
