Freshman Q&A: Jordan Rowell

It's time to meet another women's soccer freshman! This week we are featuring midfielder Jordan Rowell from San Diego!

Rowell was dominant in her varsity career at Torrey Pines High as she picked up three-straight All-Avocado first team honors from 2018-20. A two-time team Captain, she started her career off with a bang by scoring a whopping 23 goals as a freshman. She followed that up by scoring eight goals and tallying 15 assists as a sophomore, and added four goals and 18 assists as a junior. Rowell played club ball for the DMCV Sharks and was named a ECNL All-West Regional Team selection in 2018.

Get to know more about Jordan in our Q&A below!

Q: Who is your favorite soccer player?
JORDAN: My favorite soccer player is Julie Ertz. I really like her style of play and see it as similar to mine. She is a very physical player, while also having great vision of the field. I love the fire she brings to the pitch along with her leadership.

Q:Who is your favorite music artist?
JORDAN: My all time favorite musical artists is Travis Scott. I actually got to go to one of his ASTROWORLD concerts and it was such an amazing experience. He connects to so many through his music while also being able to pump you up for a big game.

Q: What is the best part about playing your position?
JORDAN: The best part about playing midfield/center defense is the physicality I can bring to the game. I love being able to fight for the ball and putting in big tackles or jumping for a header while also being able to transition to offense, which allows me to use my vision of the field to create goal scoring opportunities. I also love when I get the opportunity to finish or score.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?
JORDAN: Some of my hobbies outside of soccer include going to the beach, painting, skiing, and hitting golf balls.

Q: What has been your most memorable moment playing soccer?
JORDAN: My most memorable moment playing soccer would probably be winning state cup and then going onto the western regional tournament.

Q: How old were you when you first started playing soccer, and when did you know that you wanted to play at the collegiate level?
JORDAN: I was about four years old when I first started playing soccer. Growing up I was always playing a bunch of different sports, so around the age of 12 I decided to stop playing other sports and focus on soccer because I knew then I wanted to play in college.

Q: Why did you choose San Jose State?
JORDAN: I chose to play soccer and attend school at San Jose State for a couple different reasons. I immediately fell in love with the coaching staff and program. The recruiting process with coach Lauren Hanson and Tina Estrada made SJSU and easy decision. They have created such an amazing team environment along with winning championships.
