Women's Basketball Inks Four To Latest Class

San José, Calif. – San José State head women's basketball coach Jamie Craighead has announced the signing of Sidney Richards, Sammy Shields, Jalen Tanuvasa and Jadyn Watson to National Letters of Intent. The quartet will compete for the Spartans beginning in the 2021-22 season.

Richards, a guard out of Sacramento, will bring immediate speed to SJSU next season. She is rounding out her high school career at Inderkum HS and will join a roster that currently features six in-state products already.

"Sidney is a quick guard that brings in a ton of potential that we're really excited about," says Craighead. "We love keeping NorCal products close to home and she should make for a great addition both on and off the floor. We are so excited for her to be a Spartan."

Shields will come to San José State by way of Port Coquitlam, Canada. Starring at Riverside Secondary School, the guard has the ability to knock down shots from anywhere on the floor.

"Sammy is a smart, talented guard that will mesh perfectly with our up-tempo system," Craighead says. "She is a pure shooter with deep range and has proven she can play on an international stage while growing up in Canada. We can't wait to have her here next season."

Tanuvasa, a point guard from Honolulu, transferred to Faith Lutheran HS in Las Vegas last season. She received Honolulu Star-Advertiser All-State Fab 15 honors as a sophomore on the 2018-19 season after averaging 17 points per game for the Maryknoll School Spartans.

"Jalen is a huge addition for us," says Craighead. "She is a point guard that will bring a bit of everything to this program. Her intense devotion to the game of basketball is exactly what makes her a great Spartan and we can't wait to get her on campus."

Watson comes to the Spartans by way of Wayne, N.J. A standout forward at Morris Catholic HS, she averaged a double-double in her junior season with the Lady Crusaders (16.2 PPG, 10.8 RPG).

"Jadyn is a skilled and versatile athlete who is going to be a great fit here," Craighead says. "She will be able to learn immediately from our more experienced student-athletes once she arrives on campus. We are so excited for her to join the Spartan family."

Craighead is set to begin her eighth season at the helm in San José. Her players have earned 11 conference post-season awards for their play on the court in addition to 36 Academic All-Mountain West and 14 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors.
