San Jose, Calif.—Sophia Konieczny has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San José State women's gymnastics team beginning with the 2022 season, as announced by Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers.
Konieczny, the daughter of Jennifer Coffman and Jeff Konieczny from Denver, Colo., competes for Colorado Gymnastics Institute and is coached by Vin and Sonia Leira and Lindy Franzini. She competed at the 2019 Junior National Championships where she tied for 18th on beam. She won the 2019 Level 10 Region 3 bars championship and finished third on the beam and ninth in the all-around at the championships. Konieczny was second on bars, beam and in the all-around at the 2019 Colorado Level 10 championships. In five meets she competed in during 2020, she was first on the bars at two meets – Denver Winterfest Classic and Waller's Heart of a Champion.
In the classroom, Konieczny is a National Honors Society member and intends to major in forensic science with a concentration in biology.

She is a great student, strong gymnast, and an even better person. Sophie's strongest event is bars and even though we will always look for strong all-around gymnasts, we definitely need more depth on bars. She has beautiful lines and good difficulty, but is also still improving. We think her best gymnastics is yet to come, especially coming from a strong club gym. Her coaches have a great team culture and high standards, so she will not have a big learning curve coming to us. We are thrilled to welcome Sophie to our Spartan Gymnastics family!"
