Spartans Held In Check By Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - San Jose State softball was unable to avoid the sweep as they fell to the Stanford Cardinal by finals of 6-1 and 7-1 in Saturday's doubleheader at Smith Family Stadium.

The Spartans (0-3) secured 10 combined hits for the day, including two-hit games from Alyssa Graham and Janessa Lozano in games one and two, respectively. The high-power Stanford offense strung together 18 hits, including four triples.

San Jose State returns to action on Friday as they begin a three-game series against Saint Mary's in Moraga.

Quick Hitters - Game One
- Despite being unable to scratch across many runs, the Spartans did well to put runners aboard as they had at least one hitter reach safely in every inning.
- Graham led the Spartan offense with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, including a RBI double in the second inning. 
- Arianna Miranda and Malia Luna tallied the other two hits for SJSU. 
- Caroline Bowman (0-2) started her second-straight game and was charged with loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out a pair. 
- Jenessa Ullegue made her first appearance in the circle on the year to work the final three innings. 
- Emily Schultz was 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, homer, run scored and four RBI to lead the Cardinal.
- Maddy Dwyer (1-0) worked a complete game to pick up her first win of the year.

Quick Hitters - Game Two
- Janessa Lozano secured a multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
- Jillian Figueroa knocked in SJSU's lone run in the seventh inning with a RBI single up the middle for her second-career hit. 
- The Spartans once again found success at putting runners on the bases, but left six stranded once again. 
- Jocylyn Vidal made her pitching debut, working the final two innings. 
- Ullegue (0-1) made her first start of the season in circle and was charged with the loss after giving up three runs, all earned, on seven hits. 
- Emily Young was one of three Cardinal players to finish with multiple hits and lead the team with a 3-for-4 outing. 
- Regan Krause (1-0) also worked a complete game to pick up the win.
