Women's Gymnastics Keeps Progressing In Meet at UCLA

Los Angeles, Calif.—The San José State women's gymnastics team continued to grow as scores continued to improve as the Spartans recorded a 193.575 Saturday afternoon in a meet at UCLA.
 
Freshman Lauren Macpherson broke the 39.000 barrier in the all-around with a season-high 39.025. She was the team's top performer on vault with a season-high 9.800. She added a 9.775 on bars, 9.700 on beam and a 9.750 on floor.
 
Saturday was a homecoming for current Spartan graduate student Mercedez Sanchez. She spent the past four years as a member of the Bruin women's gymnastics team and graduated in Spring of 2020 with her degree in sociology from UCLA. Returning to Pauley Pavilion, Sanchez performed on the bars and beam for the Spartans, recording a 9.750 and 9.675 respectively.
 

The Spartans started the meet on bars with a 48.725, led by Emma Milne's 9.850. The team then had a season-best 49.350 on vault, led by Macpherson's 9.800. The floor team scored a 48.625, led by Jada Mazury with a 9.800. Unfortunately, the beam team had to count a fall in the team's 47.875. Milne led the team with a 9.750.
 
San José State will compete one more time this season as the team competes at Air Force on Saturday, March 20, beginning at 3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT.
