19 NFL Teams Attend Spartans' Pro Day

Even with only two seniors from the 2020 Mountain West champion San Jose State University (SJSU) team participating in the Spartans' annual "pro timing day" event, 19 National Football League (NFL) teams sent team scouts to CEFCU Stadium for the latest look at wide receivers Bailey Gaither and Tre Walker.

On a crisp, cool St. Patrick's Day morning with a lingering overcast sky, the former Spartan pass catchers were measured for height, weight, hand size, arm length, and wing span; tested in the vertical jump, bench press repetitions of 220-pounds, the 40-yard dash, standing long jump, and two different shuttle drills; and participated in a 20-minute pass receiving session. Former San Jose State quarterback Josh Love, the 2019 Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year, and one-time Stanford signal caller K.J. Costello were the two passers to the 2020 All-Mountain West wide receivers.

"For starters, it was great to see Bailey and Tre catching passes in CEFCU Stadium again. It was so much fun to see them run around here. I thought they both had great days. They both looked good running. The testing went really well. And, they both really shined in the throwing and catching with the quarterbacks," said San Jose State football head coach Brent Brennan, who spoke to the assembled scouts on the floor of CEFCU Stadium after the completion of the passing drills.

Linebacker Ethan Aguayo was a fourth San Jose State player participating in the 2021 SJSU "pro timing day." Neither Aguayo nor Love has a "pro timing day" due to shutdowns from the onset of COVID-19.

Gaither and Walker have about six weeks to wait for the 2021 NFL draft, Thursday, April 29, through Saturday, May 1, in Cleveland, Ohio.

The last time a Spartan wide receiver was chosen in a NFL draft was in 2007 when James Jones was picked in the third round as the 78th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers and John Broussard was taken in the 7th round and 229th overall selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
