Nelson, Lousi Named Spring 2021 All-MW

Colorado Springs, Colo.—San José State volleyball players Haylee Nelson and Latahevai Lousi have been selected to the Spring 2021 Volleyball All-Mountain West team, as selected by the conference's head volleyball coaches. This is the second honor for both players
 
Haylee Nelson, JR, OH, Fremont, Calif./Newark Memorial HS
Nelson led the Spartans in kills at 237, 3.70 per set, and was second on the team in digs with 178, 2.78 ps, this season as she started all 16 matches this season. She led the Spartans with 25 service aces including four in a win over New Mexico. She recorded 20 more kills in three matches – 23 vs. New Mexico, 22 vs. Colorado State and 20 at Wyoming. Nelson had 10 double-doubles on the season and hit .300 or better in four matches. She was named the MW Offensive Player of the Week twice and ranked among the top-five among MW players in kills, aces and points. This is Nelson's second honor after she was named to the All-MW team in 2019.


 
Latahevai Lousi, R-SR, OH, Fremont, Calif./Washington HS
Lousi was second on the team in kills with 220, 3.44 ps, and third in digs at 156, 2.44 ps, and blocks with 27, 0.42 ps. She started all 16 matches and played in all 64 sets. Lousi had seven double-doubles on the season including a 20-20 double-double with 20 kills and 20 digs in a win over Nevada. She hit .300 or better in four matches including .333 in wins over Nevada and Colorado State. She recorded four blocks in four matches (all wins). Lousi ranked among the top-10 in the MW in kills and points. This is her second All-MW honor after being named to the team in 2018.


 
"I am proud of Haylee and Vai for all of their accomplishments this season," said first-year head coach Trent Kersten. "Above all, they know that individual accolades do not happen without a phenomenal team around them. I am excited for them to continue to elevate their game in the upcoming fall season."
 
San José State finished the 2021 spring season with a 7-9 record. The Spartans were the only team in the conference to play all 16 matches and finished seventh in the MW standings.
