San Jose, Calif.—The San José State beach volleyball won 5-0 over Sacramento State Wednesday afternoon in the team's home opener at Spartan Beach.
The Spartans swept three matches – Haylee Nelson & Jaida Ward, 21-13, 21-17; Siena Brewster & Letizia Cammillucci, 21-17, 21-0; and Abby Alvarez and Mia Schafer, 21-15, 21-19.
The other two Spartan pairs needed three sets to win their point. Calli Novak and Kiley Lingenfelter fell 18-21 in the first set but won 21-16 and 17-15. Cheyenne Rice and Allison Pereira won 21-16, 19-21 and 15-9.
The Spartans improved to 3-3 on the season and play four duals this weekend at Stanford. On Saturday, the team plays Grand Canyon at 2 p.m., and LMU at 4 p.m. Sunday's duals are against California at 3 p.m., and Stanford at 5 p.m. The Stanford dual will be live streamed on the Cardinal Pac-12 channel.
