Spartans Drop Series Finale To Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. – The Spartans combined for six hits and played error-free baseball but were unable to salvage a series split on Wednesday afternoon against No. 8 Oregon.

First baseman Ruben Ibarra - who entered the day as the team's leader in home runs - tallied his sixth homer of the season and his fifth in the last six games to score the lone San José State run of the contest.

Trailing 5-0 in the top of the sixth, Ibarra jolted some life into the Spartan dugout as he lifted a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right-center field. The junior is now batting .380 on the season with a slugging percentage of .820.

Ibarra and senior Reece Hernandez were the two Spartans to tally a multi-hit game on Wednesday. Ibarra's other base knock came on a single in his first at-bat of the game while Hernandez reached with a leadoff double in the second and a single in the sixth.

Hernandez's hitting streak has now reached three contests, three games behind Ibarra's current pace of six straight contests with a hit.

Senior southpaw Wesley Clawson got the start on the mound and went four frames in his first career start. Clawson struck out two Ducks on the day.

SJSU will look to return to its winning ways when it opens a three-game series at UC Davis with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Davis.
