Spartans Lead Early, Fall Late At Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – San José State hung with Air Force for all of Sunday's contest but was unable to snap the Falcons eight-game winning streak.

The Spartans totaled three runs on seven hits and led 2-0 after tallying a pair of runs in the top of the third. The game marked the finale of a four-game series on the road against Air Force.

Sophomore Nik Trapani led SJSU offensively, going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Trapani tallied two doubles on the day in just his second start of the season.

It was freshman Theo Hardy who notched the club's first RBI of the day, laying down a perfect bunt that scored sophomore Taylor Justus from third. Hardy would reach first safely on the play, laying out with a full-extension dive to avoid the tag attempt.

San José State then doubled its lead with the next at-bat, a Kai Saterstrom sac fly that allowed Trapani to tag and score. Saterstrom enjoyed a big Sunday, notching a double in the top of the seventh in addition to his early RBI.

The visiting team's final run of the day came in the fourth as Trapani doubled high off the fence in right field to score Max Flower from second.

Just two pitchers toed the rubber for the Spartans at the Academy on Sunday. Senior Will Tomlinson got the start and made his longest appearance of the season, striking out five in 6.1 innings of work.

Right-hander Darren Jansen impressed in relief, allowing just a single hit in 1.2 scoreless frames.

Sunday's contest marked the finale of SJSU's 14-game road trip, the longest road trip in program history. The club now returns to San José for its final four home games of the season, a stretch that starts Tuesday evening against San Francisco.

First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. at Excite Ballpark against the Dons.
