Trent Miyagishima Added To MBB Staff

SAN JOSE, Calif. - On a coaching staff featuring plenty of new faces, one face will look mighty familiar to San Jose State men's basketball fans next season. Longtime staff member Trent Miyagishima will return as the Spartans' director of operations. Head coach Tim Miles made the announcement on Friday.

"Trent has been a mainstay for San Jose State Men's Basketball for 10 years," Miles said. "He is invested in this program and is critical to our future success. I'm looking forward to working with him."

Miyagishima has had a role with the men's basketball program in some capacity since 2011 when he began his stint as a manager. He would later serve as the team's head manager for two seasons before being promoted to video coordinator in 2017. As video coordinator, the Woodland Hills, Calif., native primarily managed all of the team's daily internal video duties which include shooting, editing and analyzing film from practices and games.

In 2018, Miyagishima was named director of operations, a role he has held for the last three seasons. In 2020, due to restrictions set in place due to COVID-19, Miyagishima was tasked with helping the men's basketball program relocate to Phoenix, Ariz. for nearly two months in effort to play the season. He was critical to the program's success in making the transition from San Jose to Phoenix and back as smooth as possible.

"I want to thank Coach Miles for giving me an opportunity to be a part of his staff as his Director of Operations," Miyagishima said. "I am absolutely thrilled to be back at my alma mater. The vision Coach Miles has for the future of Spartan Basketball is bright and I am a firm believer in it. I can't wait to get back to work."

Miyagishima, who graduated from San Jose State in 2017 with a degree in communication studies, played varsity high school basketball at Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies. In 2020, while balancing his role with the Spartans, he completed his Master of Arts in Coaching and Administration from Concordia University-Irvine, graduating with a 4.00 GPA.
