San Jose, Calif.—The awards keep coming for the 2021 Mountain West champions as every student-athlete on the San José State women's tennis team was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athletes, and the team received All-Academic Team recognition from the ITA.
The nine players honored are - Jovana Babic, Tamara Culibrk, Lara Marco Mas, Klara Milojkovic, Irena Muradyan, Alba Pedrero Galindo, Savannah Sendar, Raquel Villan Pereira and Rozalina Youseva. Sendar earned the honor for all four years at San José State, while Pedrero Galindo is a three-year honoree. Culibrk, Marco Mas, Milojkovic, and Youseva earned the recognition for the second consecutive year.
For the 10th straight season, the Spartans earned ITA All-Academic Team honors after posting a 3.683 GPA for the spring semester.
"This is the first time that every player has been recognized individually," said Spartan head coach Chad Skorupka. "They did an incredible job in the classroom this past semester. I want them to get a great education at San José State and take advantage of the resources available to the student-athletes. They went out and proved themselves in the classroom. I also want to recognize Subrina Martin, our academic advisor, who is a big asset to this team."
The nine student-athletes to receive this recognition were part of the more than 1,505 Division I women's tennis players honored. San José State was one of 210 women's tennis programs recognized.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:
· have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
· be listed on the institutional eligibility form
To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:
· have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
· all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
· all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
