Bowling Green, Ohio—Ten San José State women's gymnasts earned 2020-21 Scholastic All-American honors, as announced by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
Three gymnasts received the honor for the second time as a Spartan – Jada Mazury, Emma Milne and Carli Orcutt. Mercedez Sanchez received her second honor in her gymnastics career after earning the honor last year when she was a member of the UCLA team. Six others were honored for the first time in their Spartan career – Natasha Forrand, Madison Kirsch, Jaudai Lopes, Lauren Macpherson, Julieta Mendiola and Alexa Solomon.
To be eligible for the award, gymnasts must have a 3.5 overall grade point average or a 3.5 grade point average for 2019-20.
"We emphasize the importance of academic success in our program and could not be more proud of the young women! The adversity we faced this past year and the ability to maintain focus on their goals is a true testament to their character," said Spartan head coach Joanne Bowers.
The 10 gymnasts are the most for the San José State program since the 2016 season when 13 Spartans were honored. The most Spartans honored were 14 in 2013.
