Spartans' Starkel On CFPA National Player Of The Year Watch List

Charleston, S.C. ----- San Jose State University quarterback Nick Starkel is one of 42 NCAA Division I Football Subdivision (FBS) players listed on the  College Football Performance Awards' (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Trophy watch list.
 
            Starkel is entering his second season with the Spartans after leading the team to a 2020 Mountain West championship, an Arizona Bowl appearance, and a 24th-place ranking in the final Associated Press college football poll. Individually, he was named a second-team All-Mountain West quarterback and the Most Valuable Offensive Player of the 2020 Mountain West football championship game.
 
            Since 2008, the College Football Performance Awards program applies a scientific algorithm to available data to determine its weekly and annual awards.
 
            This season's CFPA National Performer of the Year Award Trophy winner will be announced on January 12, 2022.
 
            In the last 30 days, Starkel was named to the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award watch lists.
