SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State is set for a return to action this week, hosting UC San Diego on Thursday evening before traveling to Stockton to face Pacific to round out non-conference play. The Spartans currently own a record of 2-2-1, their most recent result coming in an away shutout of No. 20 Stanford.

For Thursday's match, the program will be giving away Spartan seat cushions to supporters and fans will have a chance to win In-N-Out Burger gift cards at halftime.

First Touches

  • The Tritons are off to a 1-4 start this season, dropping each of their four losses by just one goal. Senior Nick Cirrito leads UC San Diego with a pair of goals on the season.

  • Ranked at No. 8 in the latest United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings, Pacific sits at 4-1 with victories over CSUN, CSU Bakersfield, California and UNLV this season. The Tigers will host Sacramento State on Thursday night before the Spartans come calling later in the week.
  • Sophomore Eric Waltz impressed in Saturday's draw at No. 20 Stanford, making a career-high seven saves as he shutout the Cardinal in goal. Waltz now has two shutouts in three career appearances (was the goalkeeper in 1-0 victory over UNLV in 2020-21 regular season finale).

  • Senior Willy Mirandacurrently ranks second in the WAC and No. 19 nationally in shot accuracy, scoring at a 70% clip so far this season.

  • Spartan supporters have turned out in big numbers through the team's first two home matches this season. The contests against Sacramento State and UC Davis now rank No. 3 and No. 4 in attendance ranking for the history of Spartan Soccer Complex.
